Review

AFTER reading a review in the IT mag we decided to head to WJ Kavanagh's on Dorset Street. When making a reservation we warned that a coeliac would be in our midst and asked were there any gluten free options. The woman said that the bread would be off limits but there should be no other problems. Whatever that means. When we arrived there was no one to show us to our table. So we grouped awkwardly in the middle of the restaurant part. We decided not to take marks off for that. Little did we know there'd be more points docked.

The good bits. S'nice that the place is within walking distance of the leafy suburbs. The menu has interesting combinations and changes regularly to reflect what's in season. They have a long list of specialty beers. The bad bits. The waiter didn't really get the whole intolerant to gluten dealy and said things like "it *should* be ok" and "it'll only have a bit". After a bit of prompting she went back to the chef and said he's be able to change some of the stuff to make it gf. So that was good. But then there was the pint of cider instead of the glass. The gf dish going to the non coeliac and forgetting to bring the bottle of wine and then charging for two bottles of wine. The staff were friendly but it seemed like they weren't listening. Which is a bit worrying if you have someone with dietary requirement.

The bill for 3 main courses, 1 bottle of wine and 1 glass of wine came to €86.
Would I go again: Maybe, but just for their beer and cider, not to eat.
But don't take my word for it, try for yourself. Hopefully they were just on an off day. The waiter said they're hoping to expand the gf options (from the steak sandwich minus the sandwich) and we offered to mail them a pastry recipe.

Dear Hedwig,

I am fine. How are you? Sorry I have written in a while I’ve been so busy. Any News? I was in Heidelberg a few weeks ago. Nice City. There we met a prince. He lives in a castle. He was a Time Keeper.

I told him that if we had gotten to the final I would have said “Madam President, honored members of the court, your royal time keeperliness, dear colleagues….”

He wasn’t impressed. I thought it was funny.

Then we went to Frankfurt. This made me think of you. Where it all began. I saw that Chinese restaurant we had food in and the giant blue €. Couldn’t find our hostel. Remember when Durag ran through the square durag blowing in the wind. It made me laugh; the Fins thought I was being weird, maybe you had to be there.

Sincerely Shuvonur…
PS I bought postcards. But in the meantime ....

Domestic Bliss

Sorta...
After about 5 months of living here I finally managed to use the oven.
Also, mushrooms? I like them now. Sorry I never gave you a chance guys.

Recipe here, dead easy, cheap and tasty.
So, I'm basically Martha Stewart now. Minus the jail time, obv.

No need to fill hotwater bottles anymore!

Instead of an electric blanket I've got me an 'Electric warm bag' from Thailand. It's amazing!!!
You just hook it up to it's adapter and charge it for around 5-8 minutes and the bag stays warm for a whole night. Woke up tismorning (ha, in spellcheck 'tismorning' comes up as 'dismounting').... to find it still was retaining its heat. I just hugged it for ages as i was freeezzing.

There it is charging away.

I was holding it while i was walking around the house today then i remembered that Madonna music video for 'Nothing Really Matters' where she's holding a bag of air? i dunno, think there's water in it. it's sweird. anyway... I was basically Madonna going around the house holding my bag of water.

just watched the whole video there.. it's fucking weird.

Mail is fun

I love that Mam knows exactly what I'm like and what I need.
Her letter contained a sweet little note, a brown envelope so I can mail details and get my grant PLUS a coin purse (special engraved) for, and I quote, when you are going out on the town. It's so I don't lose any more precious cards.

Shit buzz

Ikea's all out of Mulig clothes racks and you can't be arsed investigating alternatives?
Suck it Swedes, makeshift wardrobe it is. Alls you need is a ribbon from the towel set and 2 nails that were already in the wall.

p.s, one of those items is not a dress, guess which.

Smiling Like A Fool, Napping Like A Demon

I got post. S'awesome. I have a love hate relationship with the postal system. But all that goes out the window when I see my haul.

Deadly, Meanies.

Some homemade cake. Chocolate on a stick for dipping in hot chocolate. Viscounts. Mmm. Minstrels and TWO packs of polo mints. Oh Mammy.
Some sort of book. I don't read much. But I appreciate it. Good of me, riiight.

And here are some snaps of a food shop I did a while back. Back when I was excited about cooking for myself. Now it's tired and boring. I only like cooking for others, so I can show off and be pretentious. And overuse garlic and pesto. Sigh.

Have a nice day
